🔹 Option 1 – Kinlochleven → Fort William
(Main 7-day itinerary – standard finish)
Distance: 15 miles (24 km)
Time: 5 – 7 hours
Climb out of Kinlochleven early on a steady zigzag path.
Then follow forest tracks and open moorland across the Lairigmor.
Long, steady walking before descending into Fort William.
It feels like a long day.
Then you see Ben Nevis.
Finish at the West Highland Way statue in Fort William High Street.
🔹 Option 2 – Kinlochleven → Fort William (Relaxed Pace)
Distance: 15 miles (24 km)
Time: 6 – 8 hours
Same route, slower pace.
Many walkers take extra breaks and enjoy the final day without rushing.
You will check how many miles are left more than once.
Finish in Fort William.
🔹 Option 3 – Kinlochleven → Glen Nevis (Shorter Finish Option)
Distance: approx. 13 miles (21 km)
Time: 5 – 6.5 hours
Alternative finish route via Glen Nevis.
Quieter and scenic, but slightly less direct.
You still finish in Fort William.
Just with a different final view.
🔹 Option 4 – Bridge of Orchy → Kinlochleven
(Some 6-day / fast walkers)
Distance: 21 miles (34 km)
Time: 8.5 – 11 hours
Cross Rannoch Moor first, then climb the Devil’s Staircase in the same day.
Long and steady before the climb.
Big day with very little shelter if the weather changes.
You will feel like you earned Fort William already.
Sleep in Kinlochleven.
🔹 Option 5 – Kingshouse → Glen Coe (Alternative Overnight)
(Less common, but possible)
Distance: approx. 2 miles (3 km) south off-route
Time: 45 minutes – 1 hour
Short walk off the main WHW line to accommodation in Glencoe village area.
Useful if Kingshouse is full.
Adds distance the following morning.
Not standard, but sometimes practical.
Sleep in Glen Coe.
